Developments of Distinction Awards 2012

Wednesday November 14, 2012

Every year, Urban Land Institute scours Kansas City in search of projects that have positively impacted our communities. This year, mobank is honored to receive their Developments of Distinction award, among four other projects, including 18Broadway, LEGOLAND/SEA LIFE, Posty Cards and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

The Developments of Distinction Awards recognize leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities.

Helix Architecture + Design worked closely with mobank to design the branches. “mobank didn’t want to be a bank in the classic sense. They wanted to be more like a farmers market or sidewalk café than a marble and brass buttoned-down facility," said Jay Tomlinson, founding principal and owner of Helix.

"Design is not always about safe," said mobank's President and CEO Grant Burcham. "The design of these spaces has helped us recruit like-minded employees. It has helped us recruit new customers. That’s the ultimate compliment for Helix – their design brought business."

Projects are nominated and researched by volunteers from Urban Land Institute Kansas City’s Awards Committee. Entries are reviewed and voted upon by a jury of real estate leaders and policymakers from the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The 2012 award recipients will be recognized at the Award Reception held Friday, Nov. 13, from 5:30-7:30, at the Faultless Starch Ballroom.
